Kakao rolls back recent revamp

A few days ago, Kakao decided to update its messaging app, Kakao Talk, introducing a feed similar to Instagram, showing all the photos that your contacts uploaded to their profiles. After some days of continuous complaints from many Kakao users, Kakao decided to roll back the update to the previous version.

Kakao Talk is the most used messaging app in South Korea; therefore, many people complained a lot about this change. To see the magnitude of the problem, this change and therefore user anger caused that the stock price of Kakao went down after the release of this update.

I personally received the update, and I haven’t liked it since the beginning. It is like some kind of Instagram that shows the photos uploaded to your profile. Therefore, you see images that were not thought to be shown to everyone directly, even though those photos are in your profile.

However, they are not going to remove the new view completely; they will only enable the option to see the chats first, like classic mode. My assumption is that they are doing this to stop the criticism and will try again to remove the classic mode in the future. However, this is a small victory for the people who don’t like this view and have to use Kakao Talk.

  1. Finallyyy 🤣 It was the worst decision for kakaotalk. I also don’t like this update.
No one likes except the management part. Hope they learned something from this. 😝
