Health effects of working overtime

Have you ever work overtime for several months or years? Have you ever wondered what could be the effects of working many hours in your health? What could it be your long time in your brain?

Recently appear a study of several Korean universities found out that if you work many hours, there’s an effect on your brain functions. Actually, they found out that there are effects in your brain structure, and this could affect your emotions and your problem solving capacity (which ironically could lead to work longer time).

In this research, they studied 110 healthcare individuals, most of them are doctors, and did 2 different groups. In the first group, they work 52 hours or more per week, and the second group work for 40 hours per week. They found out a positive association between weekly working hours and brain volume changes in the middle frontal gyrus and insula.

Authors stated that more research is needed to find out the long-term consequences of working overtime, but they proved that there is a biological change.

  1. As a nurse, I also have worked overtime often.
Some days I had double or triple workloads.
After that, I felt burn-out and quit my job.
I wonder if it’s reversible change or not. 😏🙄
