Han river bus service suspended temporarily

A few days ago, I posted about the new ferry service that Seoul City introduced, and I mentioned why I thought it was not a good idea. However, the first days of the service have not been as good as expected, so after receiving many complaints, they decided to suspend the service for at least one month to conduct further checks.

Many problems affected the Han River ferry service. Image AI generated.

Even though I didn’t try the service, it seems that the service is much slower than promised, and it is also being affected because of the weather. For example, the route Magok Jamsil announced an expected travel time of 75 minutes, but in reality is taking 127 minutes. Something similar happened with express routes, which supposedly should be faster.

However, the most serious issue is that it seems they detected technical and electrical glitches, which have been fixed quickly, showing that they released the service too soon. Even in this short period since the service has been released, a ferry had to return to port due to issues and some couldn’t depart.

Therefore what they are going to do is to run the service with empty ships, to test and do the necessary adjustments to the service. For me, this is the correct decision, late because the service shouldn’t be released so early, but now needs to stop and test everything again and do the required adjustments.
