Haenyeo, the superpower female Korean divers

In the Korean island of Jeju, there are some women that have a unique superpower. They can go up to 10 meters under the ocean  for fishing, even without using any special equipment.

But how can they do it?

Recently, a research team has proved that after training during generations, these women have developed a genetic mutation that allows them to have lower blood pressure and enhanced cold water tolerance. If this is true, it means they have adapted to dive.

This study states that the population of Jeju has developed at least two mutations, one associated with cold tolerance and another related to reduced blood pressure. Aside from that, their training allows them to have a lower heart rate, which is helpful to do any kind of exercise.

It is amazing how the human body can adapt and evolve to overcome the environment and cover our basic needs.
