Temu fined in South Korea

These days, chinese e-commerce platforms like Temu or Aliexpress are becoming popular mainly because they offer very low prices. However, many people are not aware that their privacy policy is not good, and they are recollecting many user data.

Temu is generating privacy concerns.AI generated photo.

The Personal Information Protection Commission (PIPC) announced that it imposed a fine of 1.36 billion wons (around 1 million USD) to Temu because they collected ID information and Facial Videos and this data has been transfered to server in China and Singapore.

This is not the first time that Temu has been involved in privacy scandals, as it seems that this app has been designed to gather all personal data that they can, including biometric data, precise location and microphone. Also, it has been accused of having strong ties with the chinese government.

Therefore, I would avoid using this kind of app if it is possible, and be careful with the permissions that are required in every app that is installed in your phone.
