Korea legalised tattooing after 33-year ban

Some time ago, I wrote about tattooists and how that activity has been banned for 33 years. This week, the Korean parliament passed a bill allowing non-medical professionals to practice tattooing.

Before this change, tattoos were practised underground. Image. AI generated.

The tattooists will have to pass a course and an exam to obtain a license and perform their activity, but this is much better than before for both them and their customers. Now there is a period of transition for 2 years for promulgation, and there will be 2 additional years to get the provisional license.

The bill has been passed in the parliament with 195 out of 202, no one voted against and there were 7 abstentions in total. This means that most of themKorean society is in favour of changing the actual situation.

For me, don’t change anything, because I am not interested in tattoos and (probably) will never get one, but I agree with this change for the health security that it will give to anyone who wanna get one.

  1. Well, I don’t care about this change but it’s good to legalize for hygiene and quality of tatoo service and also for government. But I don’t like tatoo and people who got tatoo. 😑🙄
There will be more people with tatoo from now on.
