Is it the Formula 1 championship already decided?

Yesterday’s Netherlands Grand Prix was exciting because Oscar Piastri almost decided this 2025 championship, as he got 34 points advantage in the world championship.  It remains many races, and many things could happen. However, if Piastri’s car is still reliable I see very unlikely that Norris overcomes this disadvantage. This situation reminds me of last year, when Norris was unable to win the fight with Verstappen even though he had the best car in the second half of the season.

Piastri took a great step forward in the 2025 championship fight last weekend. Image. AI-generated.

This is my personal opinion, and I could be wrong, but for me, Piastry looks mentally much stronger and focused than his teammate Norris. Norris always makes too many mistakes, especially at the race’s start. Yesterday was indeed a bit of bad luck with that oil leak in his car. However, this weekend has always been behind his teammate Piastri. And from now on, this is not enough. Should win many races from now on, or at least beat him to put pressure on Piastri. But I don’t see that happening, I feel that for him this is going to be the 2024 championship part 2.

On the other hand, I find the penalty that Sainz received very absurd and wrong in some way. If you apply the rule probably Sainz deserved that penalty. However, I think that the rule is wrong. In my opinion, you should always leave space for the other car, and it is not right that if you are brave and try to overtake on the outside, the car inside can push you out without any consequences. If we continue like this, in the end, we are going to see only boring overtakes using DRS in the middle of a straight, and fighting will not be allowed. This is not good for Formula 1 and motorsport.

  1. I agree with you. This rule makes only boring races. Pobre Sainz.. and Piastri is doing good. It’s good to see the new champion after Verstappen. 😆
