The South Korean government announces measures to boost consumption outside Seoul

Seems that the South Korean government wants to stimulate the economy outside the capital Seoul, and for that today, Thursday (local time), they announced a plan. This can be understood as a way to continue the recent plans of giving 150.000 won to each household to accelerate and boost household demand. Korea has recently been experiencing an economic slowdown, and some businesses are struggling due to the weak consumption and worsening job market. Therefore, the Korean government wants to reverse this situation with a stimulus plan, and that’s what they presented today.

The government plan includes some original initiatives, such as a lottery. The consumers who spend 50.000 won (around 35 USD) with a credit card in small businesses outside the capital Seoul will get a ticket to a lottery with 10 prizes of 20.000.000 (around 14.450 USD). Aside from the first prize, there will be other prizes, reaching a total of 10 billion won in prizes. This is an original initiative, which has a relatively low budget that can help a lot for small businesses.

Additionally, they announced increases in benefits for tourists who go to areas with a declining population, reaching up to 1 million won, in the form of a discount. This kind of tourism could be attractive to tourists who wanna escape from the massively famous and crowded hotspots, which I personally recommend. Is the way to experience the authentic Korean vibe, but I understand that most of the tourists come here for a short time, and it may not be enough to visit everything.

Anyway, I hope that this plan works and relieves the situation of many Koreans in rural areas who are struggling.
