Koreans now prefer to have daughters, and the preference for sons goes down

In Korea, and in many countries in Asia, for many years, couples have preferred to have sons instead of daughters, as in the old society they considered that having a son was needed to have a happy family and to lead the future generations. Back then, only the sons studied and worked, and daughters normally took care of the family, and they considered that they didn’t need to work or study. We have to understand that back then, the society was very different and kept the traditional roles

Luckily, society evolves, and nowadays, young girls can study what they want and work. For me, nowadays, having a preference for any gender is a bit absurd. The point is that the child is healthy and has as good and long a life as possible.

Reading the article noted below, it mentions that the countries that prefer daughters over sons are Korea, Japan, and Spain, I didn’t expect that 2 asian countries lead this ranking.

However, in my opinion, this could be bad because it could be true that they prefer a daughter for gender roles. After all, they expect that a daughter will take care of her parents when they are old; therefore, as couples nowadays have very few children (if any). Parents prefer a daughter because they want to be taken care of in their retirement. I know that this is a very strong oversimplification, as there are many kinds of parents, and I want to think that most of them don’t push daughters like that.

Anyway, as I said, the gender shouldn’t matter, and every child should have the love of their parents regardless of how their body is. They shouldn’t be conditioned by their gender at any moment in their life.
